The older a building is, the more stories the walls can tell. I’m sure you’ve heard such a statement: If only these walls could talk, right? In essence, it’s true. Places and spaces have histories. And in the case of the century-old warehouse where I worked for over 2 years shipping and receiving various building products, the aging timbers and brick contained many stories within them. None more intriguing than the bat removal incident one dusty Thursday afternoon. At the time, neither I or my co-workers thought much about the odd smell coming from the attic. But on further investigation — as dictated by our boss — the smell was bats, and lots of them. All I know is that we had the next two days off… with pay!
