A fracture that can be located of the outside of the foot, the metatarsal at the base of the little toe is what we called Jones fracture. Pain over this outside area of their foot with swelling and having difficulty in walking is the most common symptom of Jones fracture. To have an accurate diagnosis of a Jones fracture an x-tray should be done. Treatment is usually in a cast or splint for 1 to 2 months and with no weightbearing. If the Jones fracture is severe, then a screw can be surgically inserted to hold the bone together. In rare cases, a nonunion occurs and bone graft from the leg may be needed.
