To find them growing where I did was more of a surprise than I was ready for.  Not only was I not sure what they were,  but they were in a place that I did not feel comfortable talking about with most of my friends.  I did some research and with what I was able to find out on the internet I discovered that what I though I had was genital warts.   The article I read on the internet was clear that the first step in genital wart treatment was to see a doctor.  The important thing before starting any treatment is to be sure what you are treating.
